Time Zone Calculator

Convert a clock time from one UTC time zone offset to another.

e.g. -5 for US Eastern (EST)

e.g. +1 for Central European Time

Same moment, different clocks — the destination reads 6 hours ahead of the origin on the 24-hour clock.

About the Time Zone Calculator

This calculator converts a clock time from one UTC offset to another — the arithmetic behind figuring out what time it is somewhere else in the world, without needing to remember which direction to shift or squinting at a world clock website.

It comes up constantly for scheduling a call with someone overseas, figuring out what time a livestream or flight departure actually lands in your own zone, or double-checking a meeting invite that only lists a time zone abbreviation you're not sure of.

Enter a time along with the source and target UTC offsets, and it shifts the clock time by the difference between them, flagging when the result lands on the previous or next day.

How it’s calculated

The calculator finds the difference between the target and source UTC offsets and adds that difference (in hours) to the source time. Because time zones wrap around a 24-hour clock, a shift can push the result past midnight in either direction — when that happens, the calculator flags whether the converted time falls on the previous day, the next day, or the same day as the original.

Frequently asked questions

Does this calculator account for daylight saving time automatically?

No — you enter the UTC offset directly, so it's on you to use the offset that's currently in effect (for example, US Eastern is UTC-5 in winter but UTC-4 during daylight saving). Double-check which offset applies to your dates before converting.

What UTC offset should I use for a specific city?

UTC offsets are commonly listed alongside time zone abbreviations (like UTC-5 for US Eastern Standard Time or UTC+1 for Central European Time) — a quick search for the specific city's current UTC offset will confirm the exact number, especially around daylight saving transitions.

Why did my converted time roll over to the next or previous day?

Time zone shifts don't respect the 24-hour clock's boundaries — adding or subtracting several hours from a time near midnight can easily push the result past 00:00 or past 24:00, which is exactly what the day indicator in the results is flagging.

How do I convert between two zones that aren't UTC-based in my head?

You don't need to — just enter each zone's own UTC offset, and the calculator handles the difference between them regardless of how far apart the two zones are or which side of UTC they're each on.
